Your information to New Music Friday that includes gems from Oh Marvel and Nao.
London-based alt-pop duo Oh Marvel has amassed a loyal following thanks to 2 well-received albums (2015’s self-titled debut and 2017’s Ultralife) and a string of options, however they’re now setting their sights greater. As their new single attests. “Somedays I don’t assume my momma thinks I’m ok to be a famous person, however at some point I’ll present her I’m a diamond within the tough,” Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West declare over lush orchestration. That’s when the propulsive beats kick in.
“‘Trigger there’s a crown lined in glitter and gold,” they sing. “I’m gonna put on it, whether or not you prefer it or not.” What impressed the anthem? “[It’s] a music of defiance that we wrote for anybody that has ever been informed they will’t do one thing,” Oh Marvel explains. “As music-making youngsters, we have been each discouraged by naysayers… once we met one another, we bonded over our shared experiences of setbacks and near-misses.” They used that as gas to realize their goals of releasing music and touring the world.
“‘Hallelujah’ is a reminder to ourselves, as a lot as anybody else, to not care what individuals consider you, to work onerous, be your self and take a look at your finest,” Josephine and Anthony conclude. “It’s our private anthem of self-acceptance that we hope will encourage others to ‘put on their crowns,’ it doesn’t matter what anybody else says.” Watch the beautiful, one-take video, which was made in collaboration with Gregory Ohrel and Supple Nam, under. It’s good to have them again.
